It is
an honor and a privilege to be asked to serve as the sponsor for a young person
who is preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation. A
sponsor should strive to be a
witness of wholesome Christian living and embrace
the moral teachings of the Catholic Church. Accepting this responsibility
should only be done after serious prayer and discernment. When you accept this
role you will be encouraging your candidate to grow in the fullness of his
Catholic faith. A unique bond can and should be made between the two of you, so
it is extremely important that you discern and accept for the appropriate reasons.
